The fact that this house had no remaining historic details gave the client a real tabula raza. Teaming with a local architect and frequent collaborator, the house was expanded to the full width of the lot and lengthened as well! Bricks were reused to build the new back wall and salvaged floor joists became the treads in the quasi-industrial steel winding staircase.

At the parlor entry, a piece of custom Bendheim glass gives both privacy and light at eye level, but becomes increasingly transparent if you glance up. In the master bedroom, a floating wall is home to the bed with an office space hiding behind.

Custom dining table with stone top and blackened steel legs echoes the steel staircase nearby. The side tables double as extensions to the dining table for large dinner parties. The custom coffee table visually incorporates the colorful rug.
